Amenity Features - Stacks C

“The Stacks” is the name of a three-building mixed use development along the banks of the Anacostia river in Washington DC. While I did work in all three buildings, I am focusing only on my favorite one here. I designed a variety of elements of the interior decor as featured in the common areas. Not all are pictured but of those that are, are the large black divider screens that include (2) moving wall sections at the corner that are guided on concealed roller tracks behind the header. You can also see the steel planter boxes enclosing the columns and bases of some of the screens. Lastly pictured is the “Ripple Wall” feature for which we won a NOMMA award in 2026. This is composed of several rolled segments of 3/8” steel plate cut wavy at the top and aligned to make a smooth undulating curve. The challenge was that this organic curving shape needed to be aligned properly relative to the lighting embedded in the concrete, it had to be very precisely defined and robustly supported, without showing any fasteners.

Other items not pictured include: steel one-line rail, glass railing, a monumental stair and railing as well as a variety of trim and edging.
