Tron Lightcycle/Run - Railings
Disney World, Orlando FL
2023
The highlight of the project was the custom stainless steel picket rail with integrated lighting/speakers and WiFi routers but it was only one of 5 different railing types which were part of this job. Pictured above is the ramp up to the elevated concourse where the queue for the ride starts and it is enclosed on all sides by this custom stainless steel picket rail. The rail comes in 4-5 different variants and every segment was customized to fit the undulating concrete curb it’s mounted into. This curb was only 6” wide and varied in slope and radius throughout the concourse, it required a high level of precision to build assemblies that would place every core-drill within 1/8”± of the centerline to avoid breakout. The rolled toprail required a custom die be made due to the angle of the profile relative to the bend axis, this was farmed out to a specialty shop and toprail sections were then built up from a combination of tube sections of varying radius, aligned tangent to one another to maintain a smooth curve.
This job’s massive scope and uncompromising customer forced us to solve challenge after challenge as we worked the design into the reality of a poured concrete curb elevated 30’ in the air. The end result was fantastic and I take great pride in what we were able to accomplish.
